Popular Costumes of 2008
This year you can expect Obama and McCain masks to be very likely and over used. Halloween is just 4 days before the Presidential elections in 2008. These masks make it easy because the entire costume is the mask itself, since any clothes will do. You may even make it funny by wearing bib overalls with an Obama mask, for instance.
There are Libertarian Bob Barr masks, but no one may recognize who the hell you’re supposed to be. There are Ralph Nader masks again, some depicting him as rotting! Personally I thought the man was dead already. Halloween shops are still offering Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton masks, so you are not too late to depict one of them again. But to me this whole political thing is getting old.
Since George W. Bush is leaving office in 2009, you can surely expect a glut of George masks, and some insults hurled on you when you wear one. Other popular masks will be Laura Bush, Jay Leno (since he is leaving the Tonight Show), Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hillary Clinton, Dick Cheney, Tony Blair and Al Gore. Imagine a party with all of them present. Celebrity mask will be big this year, more so than ghosts, witches or goblins. Perhaps this could be because the politic races have been in the news more than normal this year?
For those not interested in celebrity status for Halloween, the fancy New Orleans style costumes or risqué costumes will be popular this year for Halloween, more so than the scary stuff. This has been a trend the last few years. If you want to know what might be popular, just think back on what happened over the last year to get some ideas. Will anyone dress like Madonna or Britney Spears? Most likely we will see a lot of those two, face and body-boobs and cleavage. Some recent popular movies like Batman, The Incredible Hulk, Indiana Jones and Hellboy will provide retail stores and customers with many options for Halloween costumes. Look for them in your local Halloween store. Accessories many times are the key to a good costume, so look for an abundance of those for sale.
For the kids you will see the traditional Halloween Disney costumes like Ariel and other Little Mermaid characters, Cinderella and Pooh Bear, for the really young. As well, Spiderman is still popular as is the Dark Knight (especially this year). Not only Halloween costumes but a whole range of accessories and theme decorated candy pails will be available.
Ever so popular in the past and again in 2008, for the very young, are animal theme costumes similar to the well known Tom Arma costumes like the zebra, rhino, monkey, white tiger or elephant.
Of course a stable of Halloween which you will again see are the gorilla costumes, Betty Boop costumes, Darth Vader costumes, the normal variety of scary unknown creature masks, and Death itself with his black hooded dress and scythe. You local Halloween shop or Halloween on-line store will be sure to carry something popular for 2008.
